There are several species of Schedorhinotermes, which occur throughout Australia and are a major pest.

• Their caste members include two different sizes of soldiers, which also differ in appearance. They are both mandibulate (claws) and are generally known as either major soldiers, or minor soldiers noted by their size.
• This species nests in trees and in tree stumps but also under patios and the ground immediately under fireplace foundations.
• Presence of major soldiers indicates a well-developed and strong colony.
